Anna Huerta – Visual Artist

Welcome to my artist page. This is a small collection of some of the art that I have created over the years. It is a reflection of how I have lived and how I see the world.

Self-Portrait in Red, Anna Huerta, Watercolor, 24″ x 30″, 2022

About Anna Huerta

I was inspired by art early in life when I had the opportunity to live in Germany with my family. My father was in the U.S. Army and he was stationed in Pirmasens, Germany. I got a chance to travel to Austria, Berlin, London, Whales, and Switzerland. I was exposed to many grand artworks, architecture and amazing landscapes. I found out I had a natural talent for art early in elementary school. I painted my first painting in a high school art class and knew that’s what I wanted to study in college. I was a studio art major for two years of college and then decided to go into the art education program. I have been an educator for 31 years. My love for teaching has really taken a lot of my focus over the years. The down time during the pandemic really allowed me time to express myself and put on Canvas so many ideas I’ve been holding in. I hope that you will appreciate the images that reflect my journey.

My Inspiration

I get a lot of inspiration for my work in the experiences that I’ve had. My family heritage is Mexican-American so I grew up influenced by the Mexican and American cultures. I also have family and close ties with the African-American culture. I have always been interested in learning about other cultures and appreciate the beauty in the people, their art and their food.

A lot of my personal story has been about overcoming health and relationship challenges. I have raised three beautiful children, mostly on my own. They are all smart, beautiful and loving humans. I am so proud of each of them. I have been an athlete all of my life and have always worked hard to be successful and overcome all obstacles. My art is a reflection of my success story. I hope that you will value every piece as it represents my willingness to rise up again!

My Media

I love to work with different mediums like pencil, watercolor, clay, printmaking, ink, oil paint and mixed mediums. I tend to gravitate to oil paints because of the richness and intensity of their colors. I will use whatever works best for capturing the right expression or reflection of a subject.

A Word About Portraiture

There’s something really special about creating someone’s portrait. After spending multiple hours viewing a person’s face, a unique relationship is formed with that person that is indescribable.
